Athenian Club
Athenian Club
(Members only)
The history of the Athenian Club is defined by its distinguished legacy and the culture it has shaped over 149 years of existence. The idea for the creation of the Club was born in old Athens in 1875, when the capital of the newly established Greek state was a vibrant center of culture and social life.
From its first distinguished founders to its present-day members, the Athenian Club has remained faithful to its founding philosophy: the creation of a private men’s club in the spirit of the English clubs, combining recreation and athletic activities with intellectual and social exchange.

The list of distinguished figures who have been members of the Athenian Club is impressive. From its very foundation, the late King George I accepted the position of Honorary President of the Club, while the princes became Honorary Members, an arrangement that remains in effect to this day in accordance with its Statutes. In addition, its membership has included 29 Prime Ministers, ministers, academics, artists, and many other prominent representatives of the Greek and international community. Holding an exceptional and distinguished position in social and cultural life, the Athenian Club continues to be one of the most important institutions in Greek society, offering a setting where aristocracy, intellectual development, and social interaction coexist in harmony and refinement.
From the time of its founding to the present day, the Club has continued to evolve and adapt to the changing demands of each era, while faithfully preserving the principles and traditions passed down by its predecessors.
With a shared commitment to tradition and quality, Dipnosofistirion has undertaken the operation of the Club’s restaurant as well as the organization of its social events.
During the summer months, the Club’s restaurant is relocated from the 8th floor to the roof garden, serving its members in an open-air setting between the Parthenon and Lycabettus Hill.
The hall on the 6th floor is available to Members, upon request, for social events such as receptions, luncheons, dinners, and other gatherings.
In addition, the luxurious hall on the 9th floor (covered and air-conditioned throughout the year) is also available to Members for hosting their social events.
Dipnosofistirion has established its own distinctive mark in the field of Greek gastronomy, and its 27-year course demonstrates that it will provide the Athenian Club with services of the highest standards, both in fine dining and in the execution of splendid receptions.
With excellence and refinement as a common denominator, the collaboration between the Athenian Club and Dipnosofistirion, boasting 27 years of experience in the hospitality industry, constitutes a long-term partnership aimed at delivering an exceptional gastronomic experience to the Members of the country’s most historic club.
